Roma / Strati explores the city as a layered system of traces, structures, and temporalities. Rather than depicting Rome through recognizable landmarks or urban narratives, the work reduces the city to a field of visual relationships where architectural fragments, geometric forms, and spatial tensions coexist without fully resolving into a unified image. The composition operates through superimposition. Different orders—historical, architectural, and perceptual—intersect and overlap, generating moments of alignment as well as disruption. What emerges is not a representation of the city itself, but an abstraction of its internal complexity. Geometry functions as both framework and interruption. Essential forms impose temporary order, while residual traces suggest the persistence of earlier structures beneath the visible surface. The image becomes a visual archaeology in which each layer partially conceals and reveals another. Rome appears here not as a fixed place, but as a condition of accumulation. Centuries of construction, transformation, and adaptation are translated into a language of discontinuities, where permanence and change remain in constant negotiation. The work proposes an understanding of the city as a living stratification of signs—an unstable balance between memory and reconstruction, where every new layer depends upon the presence of those that came before, yet never fully coincides with them.
