THE INVISIBLE THREAD

Why Ramesses VI?
VI is a modern scholarly label. Researchers identify rulers through their royal names and reconstruct their sequence by comparing inscriptions, dated documents, family relationships and monuments. This king’s throne name was Nebmaatre-Meryamun. He followed Ramesses V and is the sixth ruler in the conventional sequence of kings called Ramesses.
The evidence: tomb KV9
KV9 was begun for Ramesses V, then enlarged and used by Ramesses VI. This archaeological evidence contributes to the reconstruction of the succession. Ramesses VI was a son of Ramesses III and succeeded his nephew Ramesses V.
Royal names and cartouches
A cartouche encloses a royal name. Pharaohs had several names in their titulary, allowing scholars to distinguish rulers who shared the name Ramesses. Ancient Egyptians identified the king through these names; the Roman numeral belongs to modern historical writing.
The invisible thread
Broken Stele recalls an ancient form through a contemporary reflection on fracture and permanence. The photographs open a route back through stone, names and memory: an artistic dialogue across different periods.
