A Building Suspended from Its Own Shadow
2026
A building is expected to cast a shadow. Here, that relationship is reversed. The massive volume hovers above the ground while its shadow becomes the only visible point of support. The structure remains restrained and materially convincing: a single brutalist form, clear light and an empty landscape. Nothing announces the impossibility. It emerges only when the eye searches for the force that holds the weight in place. The work turns an effect into a cause. The building no longer produces the shadow; the shadow appears to produce the building. Architecture becomes a meditation on dependency, asking whether what seems secondary may in fact be what sustains us.
