A Door That Opens onto Its Own Reverse
2026
A door marks the possibility of elsewhere. Even before it opens, it establishes two sides and promises that crossing the threshold will change our position. In this work, that promise turns back upon itself. A freestanding doorway stands in an otherwise empty space. Beyond its opening, the repeated threshold unsettles the distinction between arrival and return. The imagined passage leads towards the reverse of the very door through which it began. The restrained setting gives the anomaly room to remain unresolved. Nothing distracts from the relationship between frame, opening and the space beyond. The work suspends the moment of crossing, asking whether an opening can still offer freedom when it provides no elsewhere. The door remains available, but the certainty of passage slips away.
