The Thread

The thread turns absence into a deviation. A single line shows that two points can no longer meet by the simplest route. The work concentrates the greatest perceptual shift in the smallest amount of matter: what cannot be seen occupies space through the detour it imposes. The human relationship emerges from the distance between the ends. An interrupted conversation, a learned caution or an avoided word can alter the path between two people. They need not be represented. The thread makes visible the geometry of an obstacle that persists even when its cause does not appear.
